Are you asking about wearing your own clan's tartan sash, or the Army tartan sash? If it's your own clan sash, then you're not bound by "the rules" because you're breaking "the rules" already by not wearing his

Actually, as the Colonel and his lady are not yet married, our new friend is quite correct in not wearing "his" tartan.

Correct, Jock. As you can see in the photo above, my wife is wearing a sash in the red-based, Macpherson tartan in the modern colour scheme that matches my kilt. She is my wife, therefore this is correct. When we were dating, she would wear a sash in the red-based, Robertson tartan; which is the Highland clan that she is descended from, as well as her maiden name. Of course, my wife can also choose to wear her own clan's tartan as she sees fit and sometimes she does, simply due to the fact that she is extremely fond of the Robertson tartan(s).

Thanks everyone for the very rapid responses! Well, I am proud to be his (future) wife, but he's also marrying me for who I am, so I'll keep on wearing my MacGregor on the right for the rest of my life! I guess I can change where it's knotted, though.
