Lightweight Kilt Advice/Recommendatons

I like my USA Casuals and I wear them on my hip bone points ( a little lower the jeans level ). I oversize the hip dimension when I order so the taper from hip to waist includes an extra tapered pleat on each side of the rear.
I am actually 34 waist and 36 hip. I order 34 waist and 39 hip. This takes into account the more rapid dimension change required by the shorter vertical distance between my waist and hip.

I own a low-waisted "casual" from Scotweb, that is made by Balmoral. Mine is made from heavyweight 16oz Lochcarron fabric. I really like the fit, and with less yardage it is considerably lighter in heft than my heavyweight 8yd kilts.

This is that casual kilt, in Aberdeen District...

does that really work? i ask because i have been wondering my self how to get the same kinda of fit as you mention. i have very similar measurements being 36 waist 39 hip, so if i add 3 inch to hips it will ride lower with out that bunching up when moving your legs allot , like sitting or such?

I think you are talking about the horizontal bunching just below the "waist" band on the apron.
The lower you move the waist the more the front wants to ride lower than the hips and rump, especially if you have some lingering holiday tummy fat as I do now.

I think Steve Ashton calls this "Slope" and accounts for it in his low waist designs.
As most kilts are designed for traditional high waist and this custom (if available), gets expensive, I work to keep the tummy slim so that the kilts ride higher across my abdomen by the warm season. In the mean time I wear my Utilikilts that are designed for hip wear or move my traditionals up an inch in front.
(12 years after surgery and I am getting more tolerant of pressure in this area.

What little is left the sporran covers, as with low waist you will want to wear your sporran higher relative to the kilt - I use belt and hangers.
