As regards your question about the Portcullis : Aye and a lovely pub it is, with great steaks and fine brews. We arrived too early to eat and did the only thing open to us - we each had a pint and a great time chatting with the fellows at the bar. When the kitchen opened we had a great meal at a good price. The Portcullis also has rooms available, though we haven't stayed there. A friend has a nice B&B just down the hill from the castle, an easy walk. We will be staying with her June 26 through July 14. I don't know if she still has rooms available but can provide contact info for anyone interested. We stayed with here in 2010 and can say she runs a fine establishment.
