Sir William, make sure you get to the Edradour distilley. It is the smallest distillery in Scotland and produces a fine single malt.

Been there several times and I usually stop there when I'm in the area. One of my favorites.

I've a bottle of the Scapa in the warchest, but it has been a while since I sampled it. I do remember it was enjoyable with a bit of a salty finish. Must get it out again and freshen my memory.

I can whole heartedly recommend the tour at Aberlour distillery in Speyside. They have a wonderful tasting at the conclusion of the tour, including sweetwater (the unaged pre-casked distillery product), and you can even hand draught and label and seal your own bottle of one of their better single barrel casked whiskies in a commemorative bottle and wooden box. Even enter your name in their distillery records as the official bottler of your tasty memento. I still enjoy a wee dram of that once in a while but the stock is getting thin. May be time for another trip to Scotland to get a refill.

Ah', Scapa! Some would say there is only one distillery in the Orkneys, but here is lovely proof that they would be wrong.

Scapa is the unofficial single malt of Clan MacFarlane (Scapa was founded by MacFarlane & Townsend in 1885), and one of my very favorites. It is a bit like a Speyside with (as ForsterModern mentioned) a bit of salt and nicely lightly peated. Perhaps the only downside is that Scapa is a rather small distillery and a bit hard to source.
