    Heather MacDonald

I don't normally post about one individual (other than my family) but I thought the series I took of Heather MacDonald throwing the Hammer were not only nice photos but a great study about technique.

How on earth did she manage to take her hoodie off in mid throw?

She's powerful! A MacDonald in the Nova Scotia tartan. I wonder if she's a close cousin... ;)

I should have been more clear. The last two are other throws. I just liked the expressions. One of the things that particularly impressed me though was in the other throws the pictures are almost identical to these. I hope as my kids progress in the games they will learn learn proper technique and then work so every throw is the same. She reminds me of a guy named Mark Felix (WSM) in the deadlift. He deadlifts like a machine, each rep a perfect example of power and technique.

EXACTLY....one of the amazing things about Ryan Vierra was that every flippin throw looked (to me) exactly like the last twenty throws. WEatch Ryan on YouTube, from 2000-2010 and you literally can't tell which year it is. He's THAT consistent. When your technique is dialed in to that degree, even the bad days are consistently near the top of what you can do.

Besides, Heather is a lovely lass, more photos of Heather are always welcome!

Heather has quit pulling the ball out of orbit at the end of her last wind now. That bedeviled her for a couple of seasons, but she seems to have it licked this year and her numbers are going through the roof. Guid on ye, Heather!

Loved her expression on the next-to-last photo. Rather "here you go, fly away to first place distance." Great study in fluidity and power.

Darned fine specimen of a true athlete. She'd put most men to shame!

Of course she's tough! She's a MacDonald. They gave us a run for the money at Harlaw, didn't they Kyle?

Yes, Heather knows about this thread, and has seen it! She is kind of blown away, being compared to Mark Felix!... says it made her day, yesterday!

I can tell you all a bit more about the Lady... she's got a Masters degree in English and teaches at several colleges in AZ, including in the Maricopa Community college district. Heather is currently ranked 6th in North America...which basically means "in the world" as there aren't a lot of really serious Scottish female athletes, yet. Because of some funkiness in the ranking system, she's ranked 6th in "All Women".. and 4th in the "Womens A Class" rankings. She's gunning to get an invitation to the North American Championships in Enumclaw, WA this year. That would make the...third???.. time she's competed at them. Heather is a regular attendee at the Pleasanton Championships, as well, and also at the Womens World Championships. This year, Heather was fourth overall at the Worlds.

She's quite the powerhouse athlete, but is also a really nice woman, as well. Sorry, gentlemen, she's currently dating and seems pretty committed to her relationship with mens athlete, Andy Wooster, better known as just plain "Wooster".
