The Frasers trace their origins to Normandy. The name in its various forms is a variant of the French fraisier, which is an occupational name for a cultivator or seller of strawberries.

How fitting that these Highlanders distinguished themselves on the beaches at Normandy, liberating their ancestral homeland!

Precisely! Talk about coming, "full circle." And with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy coming up in 4 days, the article is quite appropriate indeed.

    Lest we forget.

Here's Episode 5 from the BBC Scotland series "Highland Clans," which originally aired back in 2007. The series, of which I realise has already been widely discussed on this forum in the past, features several other Highland Clans and is narrated/presented by Paul Murton. I thought it may be of interest to the OP.

And here's a rather brief video interview with the late Lord Lovat, also featuring his piper, the late Bill Millin.

I've often thought that people by the name of "Simon Fraser" tend to have extraordinarily interesting lives. Another case in point.
