"Highly industrialized". Well then, perhaps that explains their metal skin and their apparent struggle to wrest themselves free from a pastoral legacy and gallop off into a mechanized future, ... or some other such rubbish.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

God they are beautiful. I hope to see them myself some day. Maybe when they are more weathered.

    From Wikipedia's entry:
"According to sculptor Andy Scott "The original concept of mythical water horses was a valid starting point for the artistic development of the structures."[7] “I took that concept and moved with it towards a more equine and contemporary response, shifting from any mythological references towards a socio-historical monument intended to celebrate the horse’s role in industry and agriculture as well as the obvious association with the canals as tow horses.”

    Yeah, that's right. That's what I meant.

The problem is, if you're a visual artist, it's compulsory that you put an artist's statement into words. See where it jars? The result usually is art critique speak, not something intelligible or even pertinent to the work of art under discussion.

Well, therein lies the problem methinks. I rarely say anything intelligible, but often impertinent. No wonder I flunked "Humanities". Thanks for trying to help.

Great pics. I haven't seen the Kelpies yet but no doubt I will catch a glimpse of them from the motorway while travelling to Bannockburn this weekend.

As you travel to the north end of Grangemouth keep one eye ( I think you are driving) on the tree line on the left hand side of the road. Its quite a sight as the Kelpies "rear" into view.Might see you on Saturday.

Its tow horses. In the "old days", horses were used to tow the barges along the canals
