I am too new to this but if you don't mind my observation.. I have to agree with Ham on this I have looked at a lot of pics of men wearing coates with the kilt nd i think a coat to the waist is about as long as you dare. Seems it would be hard to give the right look with a coat that only shows shoes and socks and Robs and My Pea Coat? well it looks a litle starnge at that length.

An "Ike Jacket" for more moderate temps with the right color Kilt would look pretty sharp with a kilt I think. If I could get a modern version in black I would like that. They are wool and quite warm for their shorter profile.

but I am still learning so please don't be offended at my uneducated opinion....
