Exact color matching is tricky business. With what kilt are you wearing them?

I would say there is no need to match the colour of the hose. Perhaps try to match the colour of the tie to another colour in the kilt. Here is an example of what I mean.

I have a pair of the Rannoch hose in purple, however, I have never bothered with matching my tie to the hose colour (or really to anything else for that matter). I wouldn't worry too much if the purple of your wool tie is a shade darker than that of the Rannoch hose. Honestly, I think that would look far more intersting than if your tie was a precise colour match to your hose. Another thing to consider is maybe opting for a tie in shade of yellow/gold (think more on the darker, yellow ochre/more subdued side - nothing too bright and overbearing), since yellow is a complimentary colour of purple. Of course when going this route, the tartan of your kilt and your jacket colour may dictate if the whole ensemble will actually work or not, but it's worth a shot I suppose. I tend to wear this tie when wearing my purple hose, but remember, I am not consciously thinking about matching my tie to the hose:

I don't think it matters what colour tie, but as Glen says pick up a similar plain colour from your kilt or alternatively a diagonally striped military, club or association tie. here's a pic of me with a red tie with purple hose. -

Absolutely smashing! Everything "works" so well with your attire, Simon. A wonderful example for the OP.

Another option is to match your tie and your flashes

You beat me to it. I was going to say, if you had yellow/gold flashes (which I think would look good with purple hose), then a yellow/gold tie like the one in Kyle's post #4 would go quite nicely.

Sorry I disagree, too much preocupation is given to being matchy matchy. Does a Highland Scot worry weather his tie matches his hose or his flashes, I think not. What matters more is the overall appearance as in " do I look respectable in this?" .
Accentuate by all means, co-ordinate by all means but matchy matchy just makes you stand out as trying too hard.
Just saying.....
