A splash of color
I was organizing my closet the other day and realized that I was in a bit of a rut. One of the reasons that I like highland attire is that there seems to be a broader pallet of color options when compared to Saxon attire. That being said, I noticed a distinct lack of variety in my personal selections. My formal doublet is navy blue, my day jacket is grey tweed, and my hose are light grey, charcoal, sage with a grey turnover, red/white diced, and red/black diced. I have a brown waist coat, a black one, and most of my shirts are solid neutral colors. I have flashes in red, black, clergy tartan, blue/black checkered, brown/camel tartan, and one pair of claret garter ties. Most of my kilts are either blue or green based tartans. The end result is that I have a great selection of mix and match items, but most of them are in rather toned down shades. I am looking for suggestions to brighten up my look. The tartans that I have (excluding great kilts) are Clergy ancient, Scottish National, Freedom, and Brown/camel non-clan. Any suggestions are welcome.

Try Buchanan Modern Tartan . Quite colorful, in my opinion.

Get a little off the beaten path, consider Chatahoochee .I believe Burrnett's & Struth can supply it without a special order.

You can quickly brighten up your look with yellow or red hose. Branch out to a more colourful Tweed perhaps with pattern instead of solid then get a few tatersall shirts and just like that you will brighten up your look and look very smart doing it.

Thank you for the suggestions, but I was wondering more about accessories than tartans. Though I am saving for a kilt in the tartan that my reenactment troop is registering for our ten year celebration.

My kilts tend to the more earthy colors of brown and green but my splash of color is my yellow "loud" MacLeod kilt.
