One of the appeals of a kilt is the comfort and freedom it gives you. Doesn't wearing a bifurcated garment underneath kind of negate that? I think you could keep the boots but leave the trousers, or leggings or whatever they are. Black kilts look good, not sure I'd wear one at my age though.
