I've used "Cowboy Magic" when working show horses so it is my first choice. The hair straighter is an excellent suggestion, and as both the other gents have recommended, hand pressure to secure the hair follicles is critical when brushing. I would even invest in a curry brush for the process. I can guess your sporran is from a Shetland pony. The tails are more wavy and thicker than that of a Palomino or Dapple-Grey. Good looking item regardless.
