    Wanted Powell of Wales Kilt

I would like to get a Powell of Wales kilt again, but it mustn't be from the Wales Tartan Centre, or supplied by them as the quality of construction is absolute rubbish. Can anyone supply one at a reasonable price?

Strongly advise that you contact the many advertisers and supporters of this forum. They all have good reputations and you could compare prices. Be sure to specify what you're looking for - pleated to the stripe/sett, box or knife, 8 yd, 5 yd, casual, Polyviscose, etc., traditional or contemporary and to use the same requests to each of them.

You'll soon be able to produce a good "chart" to help you make your decision.

Most, if not all, of the Welsh tartans are only available in wool. No PV or Acrylic.

They are only available in wool but its hard to find someone that isn't just selling on stuff from Wales Tartan Centre.

I look it up on USAK. They do have Powell tartan in 14oz wool.

USAKilts does have Welsh tartans, but they are listed as being from WTC - Wales Tartan Center. Mel, I have been looking at WTC for Phillips of Wales. (My last name, is a variation of Phillips.) But maybe I might hold off on that one. Good luck on finding the quality you want.

Mel, if the problem with your Powell kilt was with the construction, and not the fabric itself, then it seems like your best bet would be to have someone like USAK order the fabric from WTC and make you a kilt. Not sure if anyone beside WTC is weaving welsh tartans on anything but a custom basis. Best of luck on your quest.

All of the Welsh Tartans are the exclusive product of The Wales Tartan Center. They are who designed them.

All of the Welsh Tartan are woven in in 13oz only and do not have a kilt selvedge so must be hemmed.

I find the weave to be far more loose or open that what we would expect with kilt fabrics.

I'm sorry but you won't find the Howells/Powell Tartan anywhere else.

    Seems that's the case.

So far I know the Glyndwr tartan is also available in PV.

If you want a kilt made without a stabilizer that comes apart after wearing it a dozen times, buy one from the Wales Tartan Centre. I certainly recommend that you don't. It looks like I'll have to give up on it.
