Just to confirm, the bottom of the jacket should fall about where the pleats begin, correct?

Tweed and wool go awesomely together. I have a tweed jacket that I plan to have converted. I'm not sure what the cost to convert/tailor would be, but it would be MUCH less than a new jacket. Especially if you are starting with a jacket that is only $7.

Or even a little above so as not to interfere with the pleats.

I met with the gal at the bridal shop, a professional dress maker who has a great reputation. She and the other staff were intrigued and excited about the project and love the kilt.

Looking over the jacket, lining, and labels, she noted it was high quality, very well made, and after inspecting it said "This is a $400 jacket, where'd you get it?" She couldn't believe it came from a thrift store.

Doing the cut away and shortening, lengthening the sleeves, moving the pocket flap, and repairing a hole in the back that I hadn't noticed will set me back 75 bucks, which I think is pretty decent. So in 3 weeks or so, I'll have it back.

Not a great photo, but here we are pinning things up and working out the job.

    Thanks again for the help!

    Rigby,
I think you made a good deal and you will find excuses to wear it. That is the nice thing about a simple herringbone jacket, it can give you outfit just a nudge without overdressing.

    Good score and well done!

I think you'll be quite happy with the finished product. It goes quite well with that Mackenzie kilt. Here is a conversion I did on a very similar colored jacked a couple of years ago. (To long-time members, sorry for the repeat photo.)

Looks great. I have two of these jackets I want to convert. Just haven't pulled the trigger... yet.
