I wear my basses a little higher than you do, so sporran front and center works alright for me when playing kilted, but sliding to the side is completely acceptable. Sorry for the poor image quality here:

I'm just gonna experiment a bit and see what feels the best to me. That tartan you are wearing in the pic is beautiful.

Thanks! That's a USA Kilts 8-yard wool (ex-rental) in Rocky's American Heritage Tartan. I love it.

You're not going anywhere so why not just take it off and leave it on the amp?

That is most likely what I am going to do, just wanted to see what others were doing.

    on the hip

At our local masonic meetings, the sporran goes to the hip to make room for the apron. Seems to work well.

Todd, is that a Rickenbacker 12 string with the compact headstock of 6 tuners each side? Fabulous guitar.

Yep, I've owned four of them over the years, but settled on these two as keepers. The red one is a '91 and the blonde one was built a couple years later. As an old Byrds fan from the sixties, they were always my favorite guitar, despite spending most of my time playing bass. You can hear them here on some stuff I multi-tracked in my office when I was supposed to be working. The first tune is even Scottish...sort of....

I would also consider, along with sliding the sporran to one side or the other ala drummers to consider wearing a Leather sporran strap over The "typical Leather & chain belts that are so common
