    The Second

I think the second picture looks far better regarding the drop. I read somewhere that it is better to be an inch too short than a half inch too long. I don't know about that, but I understand the point they were making.

I like the second photo. A rule which I have been used to is that the kilt should end one inch above the centre of knee.
I prefer to have the top of the kilt around my waist. My old habit of being in shirt sleeve order.

    You look very smart.

This has been very helpful for me.

I received my kilt yesterday and trying it on was a shocking experience! I thought I had it all figured out, but noooooo, I had to learn some more.

(I think) I have now figured it out but I am not pleased with how it looks on me. I have a fair size gut and no butt and the fitment of the kilt sure doesn't look as I expected it would. I don't have a belt or waistcoat or appropriate jacket yet so I have not fully decided if it needs some size adjustment. This particular kilt is an inexpensive PV type and I ordered it because it didn't seem like a significant risk (not like a $750 - 1000 custom kilt) if it was totally the wrong size. It turns out that it is NOT totally the wrong size, but I am going to have to get used to it and position it correctly (with appropriate accessories).
    Regards,
    Tom

    Pictures would help

Slothead, if you could post some pictures, members more experienced than I might be able to give you some advise on what needs to be done to improve the look, or to get the look you want.

Not a bad idea Motorcop. I'll work on that in the next couple of days off.

Based on the angle of the camera in the first picture, I'd actually wager that both are okay; though they're both at extremes of what's generally considered to be acceptable. The first looks like, if one were to correct for the position of the camera, it falls at about the center of the knee (maybe a touch longer).

Like most here, I do think the second picture looks better, but something between the two would likely get you where you want.

Don't know if this photo helps but it's the same drop as the second photo on the OP... 22.5 inch. Hope it looks ok because that's the drop I went with with my wool kilt.
