That's frightening!
It's all too common here in California, in fact just now we're getting hit with a deluge and a number of homes will be damaged or lost today, I'm sure. Of course we don't have anything ancient or of historic significance here, but it's somebody's home nevertheless.
Here people always want to build on the tops of cliffs and hills to get a nice view, but then October brush-fires burn away the vegetation which was holding all the dirt in place so that the February rains wash the hills and houses away.
This is chilling to watch and listen to. It happens every year.
