Meet my thrift store tweed jacket!

I was able to salvage both buttons as seen here

Stitching a curve is not as simple as I thought, my mother in law is a tailor and helped tremendously in this project doing what I could not do without screwing it up

The center vent was stitched closed and then the length was adjusted to fit perfectly

I would like to attest that @GrainReaper's jacket looked rather smart. It turned out very nicely. I would not be surprised to see this thread inspire others to do their own conversions.

The pockets were left of due to time limits, I stitched the flaps on because it looked odd without, they will be narrowed and adjusted to the sides a bit, maybe with a scallop to the flaps...

Yes, I was inspired by @Mikilt and his sharp looking conversions... The fact that he told me he had no idea what he was doing and managed to turn out some nice jackets was inspiration enough to try it myself!

Give it a whirl and see how it goes!

I was initially inspired by Xmarkers like @Panache (thrift store tweed) and @Mael Coluim (seersucker). But the motivation was my budget. You'll get no argument for saying that kilting can be an expensive hobby. As a new kilt wearer with debt and only part time work, I did what I had to in order to satiate my sartorial jones.

Don't hesitate to do the conversion, Jon. Speaking as a longtime thrift/resale/consignment store junkie, you will regularly find garments (vintage or not) of far, far better quality that the shoddy stuff on the racks and shelves of most full-price retail stores these days. I see beautiful, rock-solid and often Nearly New genuine Harris Tweed coats in abundance when I'm shopping the "pre-owned" shops, priced at a fraction of what they would (and undoubtedly did) sell for as new. Someone could--and maybe should--start a kilt jacket conversion enterprise (HELLO, MiKilt????).
