Welcome, Gerond, from another Davidson. I live in British Columbia and Inverness-shire, but I had a great-uncle who lived in Carberry for a number of years.

I farm north of Carberry not far from Neepawa, what was your great-uncle's name? There are three different Davidson families still around including mine. Carberry was named for Carberry Hill in Scotland by the way. In the 2006 census over 40% of people from Carberry listed Scottish heritage.

Yes, Carberry Hill near Fa'side in East Lothian. His name was Robert, was born in about 1840 and married Margaret Wilson. They had six children, I believe, among them a Richard and a William. Any connection?

They homesteaded in 1878 on S.E. 31-11-14W near the small community of Petrel in the municipality of North Cypress. It says in my local history book that Robert invented a grain pickler. He also tried to make a perpetual motion machine for which he ordered special springs from England at a cost of $1000. I don't think any of his descendants are left in the district. Very cool to meet you here on X marks. I love heritage and history and its so neat to make these connections.

Yes, it is, and it happens surprisingly often on Xmarks. Robert also invented a Spark Arrestor for bee-hive burners that was widely used in British Columbia's Cariboo, I understand. The last spark was extinguished at the closure of a Quesnel sawmill in the 1970s.
