Not disputing, just curious - how do we determine the weight of a fabric? Is there a mathematical formula?

The discussion ones are interesting, but I think I can use the 'math' one to work out the weights of a few smaller samples I have.

Sometimes I forget how old I am and the vintage nature of what I think I know... also how old some of the fabric in my stash is by now.
