While I am not in the U.K., I agree that some people look for trouble, and most importantly those same people should not be allowed to dictate who one is, or aspires to be. Avoid these people and their arguments when possible, especially where alcohol is involved. Negativity can be infectious (even the Center for Disease Control, here in the States, recognizes violence as an infectious disease), so resist the urge to dwell upon bad behaviour.

Be who you are with the most positive foot forward. Wear that kilt if you can do so with a smile.
