Absolutely agree Jock. If were me I'd have one made by either Campbells of Beauly or Humes of Kelso. Humes made me an outfit last year, it's superb and will last for years.

Thanks for the replies. It's a conundrum. I see the merit in having a tailor take the measurement in person. I've had unfortunate results with both a jacket and a kilt when the measurements were provided over email. I note that the kilt I had measured in person for me when I was 20 still fits like a glove; if only there were as many jacket makers as kilt makers in the US.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a tailor in NYC with the ability to come up with something appropriate. It's that or take one of the 20 week menswear classes FIT offers... talk about rabbit holes.

If you are in the market for a truly bespoke coat in NYC you could do far worst then check on a fellow named Rory Duffy (http://handcrafttailor.com/). He is Savile Row trained and an award winning tailor. He might even be able to advise you on someone a might bit less expensive.
