You never, ever pin the two aprons together. You will tear your kilt.
There are some who will tell you that the pin is to hold the apron down in the wind. Sorry. I have another apron right behind the first. If the outer apron blows up I still do not have a modesty problem.
The kilt pin is bling. The equivalent of a lady putting on a brooch. That little glint of jewelry in your outfit. Most kilt guys use something meaningful to them. A clan crest, a badge of a club or organization something just pretty.
The pin can go anywhere on the right side of the apron. You can put it down low or up high. It is your kilt and your pin. Where you put it is all up to you.
Personally my pins are ALWAYS, EXACTLY 2.864" in from the right edge and 3.42" up from the bottom. If you believe this I have a wonderful bridge I can sell you really cheap.
