With Jock's story above I would suggest that the best pub would be the one you can inflate in your backyard.

I give not more than a drive-by to the Fiddler, but all of the others are great. I can't seem to access my Photobucket account, but here are a few I frequent without pictures to accompany. All have websites, I'm sure, so you can visit them there.
Dores Inn is just over the hill from me and has a super-cosy bar and a great loch-side garden.
Clacknaharry Inn near Inverness always has a good selection of real ales -- it's for rent/lease to new management right now, if anyone's interested.
Cawdor Tavern is near the top of my list -- it's near Nairn and just off the Cawdor estate. Good ale selection and a fine kitchen.
The Anderson (run by a transplanted American) is opposite the cathedral in Fortrose on the Black Isle. Jim says he has the largest selection of beers in Scotland. Could be.
Culloden Moore Inn is pretty rough, but they pour good pints. Sit in a corner and mind your own business.
The Old Bridge at Feshiebridge has good weekend music and very good food.
The Castle Tavern in Inverness -- real ales well poured. Garden looks out on the castle.
Mossett Tavern at Forres.
Most of my choices are dog-friendly. Cawdor likes them in the garden, but not indoors.
Slainte.

A few more I can think of to entice you to visit The Highlands:
The Mallard at Dingwall has great atmosphere;
The Shore Inn at Portsoy. This was a shoot location for Local Hero;
Allangrange Arms at Avoch on the Black Isle;
The Stein Inn on Skye; terrific dining room, too;
The Steadings (The Grouse and Trout) at Flitchity, south of Inverness;
Glenelg Inn, great seafood, real ales and views to Skye;
Highlander Inn at Craigellachie;
Mishnish in Tobermory, great atmosphere;
The Lock Inn on the canal, Fort Augustus;
Plough Inn at Rosemarkie on the Black Isle, almost always has its own superb game pie on offer; (the Cawdor Tavern from the earlier list also does a super game Pie);
Drovers Inn at Inverarnan on Loch Lomond. Some of you will feel right at home by just crossing the threshold -- a large stuffed grizzly prepared to take you on (can't remember why);
The front bar at the Kilmartin Hotel in Lochgilphead for good local folk.
More? It's a hobby, what can I say.

Certainly! I'm sure I won't hit them all when I do get to Scotland, but the more you list the more will be on my route.

Sadly, it wouldn't be stocked very well...

I've had many a happy evening at the clachaig, around the back in the boots bar with a good fire roaring away and one of their steak and haggis burgers in front of me. There isn't a better place to spend and evening after a day in the hills.
