Wow. I must admit that this blows me away just a tad. I understand the cost value of inventory control, but that you can rush an order for say a wool kilt, "out the door in three weeks," without the stock on hand; that is impressive indeed.

When you have systems in place, weekly consolidations from each mill and a good team of kiltmakers in place, we can make tight deadlines.
Due to the # of tartans available and # of mills, weights, etc, it is basically impossible to hold inventory of wool cloth (outside of perhaps a few proprietary tartans, universal tartans, etc). Most kilt makers just order the cloth as needed for a kilt since the mills tend to keep pretty good stock levels.
