Balmoral for Douglas
Here is Tim at the Tacoma Highland Games, wearing the Balmoral bonnet I made to match his Douglas tartan kilt. Tim's is the biggest head I have covered, nearly 25".
I made a tweed, using one round of grey Lopi Light and one round of my own homespun, dyed blue. I put waistband 1" elastic on the inside of the band. The edge is finished with a blue chambray bias binding.

The biggest head I have ever covered... Malcolm the Third, King of Scots was known as Malcolm Canmore, Big Head. Not derogatory in any way, his head was large and it is noted in the records. I am descended from his Grandfather Crinan, Thane of Dunkeld and Moramer of Atholl. His father Duncan the first was killed by Macbeth, his first cousin. Crinan and his son Maldred, father of Gospatrick I my direct ancestor, both died trying to avenge Duncan's death. Malcolm Canmore hunted down and killed Macbeth.

Thank you.
Having fitted many for a Balmoral, I have come to the conclusion that a substantial skull is a Scottish national characteristic.
