Mr. Trudeau's mother's maiden name was Margaret Sinclair, so that is Sinclair modern he's wearing. Of course he could also wear Maple Leaf which Canada has adopted as it's official national tartan by act of parliament, however, most Scots do wear their own tartan as the norm.

There was a video clip on CBC ... where he mentions that he also has connections with the Elliotts.

Thank you. Yes; I was dredging my brain for that connection. His father's name was Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the Elliot from Pierre's mother's side.

Highland games
This years' Highland Games in Maxwell was fantastic. In spite of rain on the Friday... Saturday was one of the best days I've experienced. Bravo to all the organizers, sponsors and volunteers! Not to mention the teams and bands, excellent!
I think that regardless of whether you agree with the Prime-Minister's politics, it was a wonderful gesture of support for the Canadian Prime-Minister to attend the Highland Games wearing a kilt. I especially liked the fact that he wore his mother's tartan, instead of the Maple Leaf as it showed genuine thoughtfulness in attending the event, and added to the publicity of the events as many Canadians and I suspect around the world asked: What tartan is he wearing; and why.

Thanks for the kind thought, Terry. Yes, that paternal connection is what we just discussed - the "Elliott".
