My personal opinion about white hose is that white is simply a color. It can look terrible with an outfit or it can look great. It really depends on the tartan and outfit. Part of the uniform of the Red Thistle Dancers when performing is white hose (unless we are in our Victorian outfits) so that is why we are wearing them. Mine are a nice hand knit pair with a cable pattern and quite thick (which is great for dancing!) and my McNicol tartan kilt from Rocky and Co. at USA Kilts goes well with them and my light yellow shirt.
Life is too short to worry about what other people think of white socks ;)
