OK, the long wait is over and its here, my new Pakistani Douglas. I'm not sure what to think of it yet ,except maybe I would have been better off to spend more on a semi-trad.The sewn down area of the pleats is puckered looking, I'm not sure that will iron out.

I think one issue you’re having is that the material and the non-specific fit, especially in relation to your hips and waist, are causing the back to hang a little awkwardly, giving that puckered effect. I suspect your new kilt will also have the same issue. You’re already out $200 on kilts that, based on your comments and the feedback of others, are just okay. Why not take your measurements and see if any ex-hire, surplus, or used kilts can be found that are close in size and in a 13oz wool? eBay could be a place to start, but you can also email as many rental houses as you can find and see if they have something suitable. At $200, you’re getting close to the price of a decent used kilt in wool produced by a reputable kilt maker. Seems like one decent used kilt would be better than three so-so ones.
Also, it’s hard to tell in the picture, but it looks like you could come up a bit on the knee. If you can do it without turning it into a miniskirt, you could try to pull the kilt up a 1/4 to half an inch (and drop the sporran an inch or two). Kilts like to be worn a little higher, so it might help a bit.
