My thanks to the Kilt Kops concerning the use of matching flashes. In the unlikely event that I ever have the opportunity to go to Scotland, I will not make the the grievious error of matching anything to my kilt. Generally, the only times I wear my tartan kilt are to one USA highland games each year, Lutheran church on Sunday morning, and an occasional performance of the Des Moines Symphony. The Kilt Kops have litte authority at games in the USA. Strangely enough, I've never seen any Kilt Kops at Lutheran churches in Iowa or at the Des Moines Civic Center.
As for hose and shoes matching, I wear custom shoes and leg braces due to post polio syndrome. They are not ghillie brogues. I do hope the Kilt Kops let me off with a warning.

You will be relieved to know that many kilt wearers from around the world, including many traditional Scottish kilt wearers do not regard ghillie brogues as essential, or even necessary, kilt attire.

lowish,
welcome to the forum.
There are no "Kilt Kops" here. As you get to know us a little better, you will discover that there is a number of native Scots here, Jock, Peter, Allan, et al., who have a life long association with traditional Highland wear. As well as being very knowledgeable, they are equally willing to share their experience with us freely. I have learned a great deal from them. They are always informative and never imperative; we are all free to "do our own thing" as you say across the Atlantic.
You will also discover that attitudes outside of Scotland are often dramatically different; there are several threads in the forum about these differences, which make interesting reading - if you have a week or two to spare!
Advice is offered, it is entirely up to you whether you adopt it, modify it or reject it in your own kilt wearing adventures.
Welcome again, enjoy the ride!
Regards, Sav.
