I was very happy to be able to purchase a pair of hose in the Gairloch pattern last year, they do not get much wear as I like to keep them for special occasions but they are just about the finishing touch on my period correct Victorian era outfit. Great information on that link.

I'm not familiar with the term "Gairloch pattern hose" but one does see, in Victorian photos, a large number of different hose patterns that mostly or entirely fell from use by the 1920s. (Some have recently been revived.)
Since the photos are in black & white we can't know the colors. So, it's wonderful that one such pair shows up in MacLeay, where we can see that this pair is grey with a blue & red over-check. (All solid hose shown in MacLeay are grey or taupe.)
Here's a double-line over-check akin to that "Gairloch" pattern
