if something is on a country's endangered list would you not want to protect that. Is there anything PM Johnson can do to reverse this or has contracts been signed already? This would be akin to fish and game issuing hunting permits for bald eagles in the US.

Apples and oranges. A better example is "buy American" or "America first". I watch the news and many in America feel this is unfair to the rest of the world... global trade and all that. No different in this case. It's a new millennium, and anything that can be labled "protectionist", is bad.
I don't agree with it, but there it is.
