I like the full-tang, slab + scales construction - very practical. Is that from Sgian Alba on Etsy?

Excellent. I watch his shop regularly, and will probably buy my first Sgian Dubh from him.
I particularly enjoy that he makes knives with steels that are worth a damn. 01 is great stuff!
Being a knife nerd, it's hard seeing all these beautiful sgian dubhs with generic stainless steel, or "Damascus" which is no more than mild Pakistani steel with some acid etching - talk about putting lipstick on a horse! There's simply no way I'd ever pay $200 for a knife which wasn't intended to be used.
Please do let us know how you get on the the new knife - it's certainly a looker.

They look great but don't forget to put some kind of grease on those Damascus steel blades. The 1095 steel in them will rust when it's next to a sweaty leg. That's the main reason I started to make my blades out of heat treatable stainless steel like 440C or ATS34.

That's superb work - evident skill of a master cutler.
I fancied having a go a sgian-making a few years ago, so bought the blade blanks, fitted antler handles, and formed the leather sheaths around the finished knife. I set a reticulated pattern sterling silver disc into the crown of one, and a simple cap on the other.

These form part of my usual kilted day-wear, and, being my own handiwork, I have no qualms about using them for their true purpose - not just as ornament, I mean.

Those look great. I've thought of doing this myself sometime in the future, but need to get some other things going first.

404 Stainless is harder than Hades.
Those ancient U Nialls from Donegal were a randy bunch.
