Bravo Zulu to your son for his service! I've been a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for several years and while being inland I haven't had much interaction with active duty Coast Guard I've been incredibly impressed by the men and women I have had the privilege of meeting or working with.

The Coast Guard tartan is rather nice, in my opinion. As an Auxiliarist I probably have the option of wearing it, although I'd want some kind of Auxiliary badge as a kilt pin to make it obvious that I'm a civilian and not a member or veteran of our active and reserve Coast Guard. The right to wear anything related to the Coast Guard is a great privilege for Auxiliarists and I'm careful not to do anything that might misrepresent me as something that I'm not.

Roger that. I'm in the Aux as well. Both my sons started there. BM2 is the one in Buffalo. The other went through the Academy and is LT.

It's always good to meet a shipmate, and even better when the new shipmate is a clansman as well! I'm Campbell of Cawdor and a proud member of the Clan Campbell Society of North America. In the upcoming highland wedding where I'm the best man the bride insisted on Black Watch rather than specific clan tartans for the groomsmen so we could match and coordinate with her bridesmaids. While I'm quite partial to my Cawdor Ancient kilt, I bought a Black Watch and somewhat shrugged to my friend the groom as I'm basically still in Campbell.
