Cool Music made in Italy vs. Music made in the Highlands

Just kidding, of course. No one can make the chanter warble a la Pavarotti, let alone mimic his Nessum dorma while limited to 8 notes!

My wife too, on ONE of our several Britian holidays we did ONE day attending a Highland Games.

That's as much as she can take.

Odd, in a way, because around the time we met she attended Games regularly, and she has several medals from them (not piping or dancing, but running). She was also part of an RSCDS "demonstration team".

I had to do a quick web search to decipher "RSCDS." And THAT, I think perhaps explains what might be termed "SSS" (spousal saturation syndrome).

I'm unworried about dragging my wife to "The Europeans," "The Worlds," and then the Royal Tattoo.

Richard, my spouse is NEVER awakened by her husband exercising his "pinkie burl" on a practice chanter, nor did she ever have a chance to grow tired of highland dance competitions. Jock, same goes for you, I'll wager. While my FIRST visit to Scotland, 20 years ago, treated me to sounds of Pipes only twice (one of THOSE being an impromptu teenage street corner rock band with a set of pipes substituting for the bass guitar, that contrasts with "almost never," here in the USA. In fact, I think my spouse's exposures in the past 2 decades can be enumerated on the fingers of one hand (my mom's funeral, ONE day at a regional Highlands Games, HER "substitute mom's" funeral, and my iPhone "Skye Boat Song" ring tone.

I think it's safe to say

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo = pipes for the general public

(at 3:41 Kevin Conquest, a US Coast Guard officer and Drum Major)

World Pipe Band Championships = pipes for hard-core pipe band enthusiasts

Glenfiddich = pipes for hard-core solo piping enthusiasts

Is there room for pipes in an orchestra?

Are you saying you can make the pipes sound like a cello, or a cello sound like the pipes?

Music apparently has no limits, as demonstrated by THIS (don't bother linking if you're not an orchestral music lover; prepare to be amazed if you are):

I was referring to the title which means “let no one sleep”.

So, my original question is still valid about your ringtone, which sounds now as though it SHOULD be on the Pipes
