Aye,
Matt
Yea that's what i've heard many times and i've wondered, where and why did they make it up if its not what they wore?
My understanding is that they just wanted to use some of the general public's ignorance of Scotish dress. People liked the look of the inauthentic kilts in Braveheart. The producers just said "to h--- w/ it," and used the kilts anyway. The blue face paint had been out of use by Celtic cultures for nearly 800 years by that point, too. Didn't stop the producers and costume designers. Thank God they didn't win the Oscar for costume design.
