Why would you care? Would be my response to a question from a male. But that rarely happens. A coworker once responded that he didn't realize it was casual day. My response? I told him my $575 kilt was not as casual as his $35 Dockers. (If I was really in a bad mood I could have said I had more wrapped around my **** than his first semester's tuition.)

There are places I don't wear the kilt and they are places I just don't go. I went to a private party downtown Charlie-town and wore my kilt. As cars passed on King Street I got calls from the ladies (which I kinda enjoy) and male yelled (William Wallace! or Scotland! and my favorite "Are you Scottish?") People can be so ignorant. "Hey what you got under that towel wrapped around your head?!"

I don't necessarily wear a kilt because I like attention, it can be a pain in the *** (and itchy) but it's my family colors, and I am very proud of my family and what they have represented in the United States. My son is the eighth generation and I hope he is as ever a Patriot like his fathers before him. Everyone one of us in some way supports Freedom in the very spirit of Alba. AND that is why I wear a kilt. I have a very personal connection with the tartan as it comes from the land on which I belong.

I'd spent the whole day working in an office building, changing all their signs. The staff there were all pleasant, one office lady even saying "hey, good looking". Even the men there were all interested - but polite about my kiltwearing. One office manager asked if that day was a special occasion, I said "YES", "every day I manage to get out of bed healthy is a special occasion!".

So there was more positive than negative in the day.

They are everywhere. EVERYWHERE!

And after having lived in the country in North Carolina, I would say there are more rednecks per capita in Pennsylvania. Crazy, but true.

Officially, a redneck is a farmer who works hard in the fields and because he's out in the sun all day, his neck gets red from sunburn.

Unofficially, and more generally accepted, a redneck is an uncultured oaf who is generally rurally-located. Other terms used are things like "yokel," "white trash" (though this one isn't limited to rurally-located folks), "hick," or "hilljack." There are many other terms.

It's not considered a compliment, despite the possibly positive connatation from the "official" definition.
