New Orleans...
Where are you finding this information, Dreadbelly? I have not been able to find any reports of a high-rise collapsing in New Orleans.
I think we need to be very careful and cautious in posting things -- remember the "scuttlebutt" that spread after 9/11? Let's not spread any misinformation.

thanks for the link, dread, it's been a bit hard getting news on the tradgedy, thank the Lord for the net, a good source of info.
Lake Ponchatrain was in the news relating to the breaking of the levee. Strange, until now that was just the name of a favourite celtic tune by the irish band Deanta. Now it's a real place with a real problem.

high-rise...
Okay, now I've figured this out: the "High-Rise" in question is a Highway. the Mayor of New Orleans was warning people not use the elevated highway, since it may be structurally unsound.
For a more accurate source of information, I would recommend:

The Baton Rouge, La. "Advocate"
but the Command Center for Hurricane relief is in Baton Rouge, the state capitol. CNN has also been doing a great job.

In case somebody missed it the first time. I am being "cautious and careful" hence the disclaimer.
As for the high rise buildings, I am looking online for those my self. I heard about it on the radio. There is a little on TV, but not much, because I don't have cable.
Fox News has some stuff on their site.
Kinda hard to tell just how bad it really is, but the mayor is saying that the city is devistated, so it's got to be pretty bad.
Lots of the city is burning. Some of the gas mains have broke, there are flames shooting up in to the air, and some of the oil covered water may pose some danger. The yacht club is smoking floating ashes. There are some stories of floating balls of fire on the water.

Sewage system has failed, and now part of the city is flooding with waste.
Also, the mayor has declaired martial law. All civil rights have been suspended.

Has anybody seen the CNN video, "You can't hold me, please save my kids?"
Oh God.

The radio.
Don't you have like a cable tv or something around there? They keep saying that Fox News and CNN are talking about all this stuff. Turn it on.
Ah, here we go. Typed "Martial Law NOLA" in to Google and got a couple of hundred thousand hits.

www.cnn.com
There are dead bodies everywhere. They are saying "this is our tsunami."
If you haven't watched it yet, please watch the "You Can't Hold Me, Take Care of the Kids" on CNN. Even in the darkest hour, the human spirit shines brightly.
Catastrophic levee failure. There is no way in, and no way out of NO right now. On the radio, they are saying that there will have to be a massive airborne effort to get supplies in, and people out.
Smokejumpers from the Pacific Northwest and from California might be coming to NO to do some firefighting.
Everything is burning.

At least 80% of the city is submerged.
