REMF = "Rear Echelon Military Forces"

that's the nice way of putting it. use your imagination for the more vulgar way of putting it by substituting "military forces" for something else.

its a term that was originally used derisively by troops "in the bush" for those who weren't on the front lines.

nowadays, people understand a bit more that those who were in the rear lines were actually contributing to the wear effort. it can, however, be taken as an insult by some depending on who is using it and how they mean it.

You gotta love the playful hostility in the military.

Whenever someone would "Pass Gas" we would usually respond,to the annoyance of any officer around, "Keep yelling sir, we'll find you!"

The sign of a true gentlemen, to apologize for something that you feel may offend. My hat is off to you sir, even though I was not offended.

Seeing as you were answering my question, I guess I should comment. I wasn't offended, and you did alter the words so it should be okay. Part of my mum's raising of me: anytime you see a military acronym with an "F" in it be very careful asking for meanings.
