    Stupid overseas phone call question

I've never had to place an overseas phone call until now. The shop I bought my Argyle jacket from needs my c/c info and I don't want to email the info to them, so I thought I'd just phone. They don't take Paypal.
The number is in Scotland, and is in this format... XX (XXXXX) XXXXXX.
Do I just dial the entire thing, or do I have to dial a "1" first?
    Dumb question, I know.

usually the codes in England begin with a 0

so from norway i'd dial 0044 (code for the UK) then 01412 (missing off the zero )
then the number of the person you are ringing

    0044 (0)2380 xxxxxx

"Using this number as an example: +44 (0)870 555 5555"

When calling the UK from the USA you would dial 011 44 870 555 5555.

The 011 tells the phone switch that you are dialing international - you dial this for every international call you make in the USA

The 44 is the country code for the UK - each country has their own code

You drop the (0) when dialing internationally from the USA

The remaining numbers are the actual telephone number you are dialing.

Hope this helps! Remember, most cell phones will not allow international calls unless you specifically have an international plan, also most 'office' phones, those you have to dial a '9' to get an outside line, are not able to make international calls either unless programmed to do so at the switch.

And make the call a timely one, too. Unless you have an international calling plan. Otherwise, you will need cardiac care upon opening your next phone bill.

I'm on the phone to Scotland for at least a couple hours, every day. A mere twenty minutes at the standard rate will pay for an international plan.

Thanks guys! As usual, the kilted brethren comes through with the right information.

Mike...I'd definitely try to keep the call as short as possible. I have a great long distance plan, but it only covers North America.
