Nope. I'm here for the kilts, not ones sexual orientation. As a minister I do have a strong opinion, but I'll respect the forum rules and leave it alone. This is a kilt forum and thats whats important here-kilts and the people of all types who wear them.

My thought when reading this, and the first post was really very simple.
What do Gay people look like?
The answer is, they look like me. And you. And that other guy.
So I wouldn't worry about it.

Very well said, Alan. Thank you.

Seriously, you are posting that statement to a group of people that wear a kilt on a regular basis! We have pretty much indicated that we don't care for society's opinion of our fashion sense, and I think for most that extends to our entire world view. For most of us we don't care much how others respond to us, and by extension do not judge people ourselves. It would be almost impossible to objectively determine if kilt wearers were more open minded and less judgemental/prejudiced than non-kilt wearers, but that is my own subjective opinion, based almost exclusively on the people on this board. One thing that many do not do is try to look at it from the other person's viewpoint. Like, I assume that you don't care that I am not gay, so why should I care that you are?
Rob... not sure why anybody would be concerned with somebody else's home/personal life, I have enough challenges in my own...

Thanks Rob. Very well said. This is off-topic, but I'd like to state that in my experience the people who seem to take the most interest in controlling what other people do in their bedrooms tend to be the same people who I'd rather not imagine having sex life at all! 8)

Gentlemen,
I've been bothered by this thread since I read the beginnings of it earlier today. I finally got out of bed tonight and came down to post as it was making me nuts. I'm happy to see that since I last read it most of what I intended to say has been said. With that being said I will speak my peace.
Mod's feel free to delete what I have to say if I go over the top.
First of all I AM a gay man and I wear the kilt. There is no movement in the gay community to "commandeer" the kilt for our own purposes. This has been discussed here before in the context that Utilikilts usually has a booth at most gay functions. I've seen them three times this year: Gay Pride, Gay Rodeo and er....one other function that I can't remember which one it was. They also attend numerous other functions -- all in the name of promoting the product.
Utillikilts are what got me into kilts to begin with. I bought one and then started doing research (and at the same time renewed my interest in my own family history) and moved into traditional kilts.
Let me say this: Gay men are not in the business of "subverting" anything. In fact, for the most part in the bigoted world that we have to live in we only live to fit in. Most of the gay men that I know say the same things to me as you all get when wearing the kilt -- Aren't you cold? I don't have the b**** to wear that, ..etc.
They are afraid of not fitting in. Gay men ARE in the forefront of fashion in many ways and yes, may even adopt the kilt at some point.
I see more er...worry if you want to put it that way of the kilt becoming Goth than I do gay.
Quite frankly, I'm no different than any of the rest of you except for that one little thing.
<Really nasty little overused phrase coming on.......Can't we just all get along?? And I add to that...Can't we just not be afraid of each other??!>

But don't be too harsh on yourself! Just remember this one word... SHRINKAGE!
