    White hose?

Do you mean white knee length socks like many men wear with the kilt?
What are my options? Certainly other colors but white apears to be quit common. What are they doing wrong?
    Do tell.

Heh, that was a bit of a joke. You can probably search for "white hose" and get a bunch of reading. Apparently it's not all that asthetically pleasing, and is a rather recent phenomenon, mostly caused by rental places offering cheap white hose.

Speaking of women in kilts... many years on this planet have taught me that its always best if I just fish my side of the stream and let others worry about casting to the other bank...

In all honesty I must admit I knew what a merkin was long before I ever joined this respected and respectable forum. I guess my mis-spent youth wasn't all a waste.

I think we men already have something that's ours alone, it's just kept out of sight in public. Why worry about a woman wearing a kilt?

It's not that big of a deal to me, in part because the majority of women will wear a womans' skirt, the number of women who would wear a man's kilt is extremely small, especially since there are alternatives that make them look even sexier than if they wore a man's kilt.

The high cost of genuine kilts alone would surely dissuade many women from wearing them.

I think we men already have something that's ours alone, it's just kept out of sight in public.
I know at least one person who has a male identity (clothes, girlfriends, driver's license, social security card, etc.) who was born without that special "something". He was, in fact, born female. So, that thing we keep out of sight is apparently not what makes us male.

It's not just the clothes, it's the whole matter of social identity. "Self-Made Man, One Woman's Journey into Manhood and Back" by Nora Vincent is a very good book on the subject.

And maybe for me, wearing the kilt is like stripping off that male armor and being more my natural self. Or maybe it's a like a uniform that symbolizes my life and experiences as a man -- like a miltary uniform symbolizes the shared experiences of soldiers (which is why, not having been in the military, I'd never wear one).

The kilt to me is liberation, and maybe a bit of rebellion. For a woman to wear one seems to me like a cross-dressing male showing up to a bra-burning demonstration in the '60s -- rebelling agains something he's never spent a lifetime being forced to do.

I'm sure I seem like I'm rambling, but I'm trying to burrow down past logic and rationalizations and get to the feelings, those rubbed-raw places that I'm usually too polite to show in public -- assuming I can get at them myself.

To answer Shay: You women have won that battle. Wear what you want. Whether we men like it or not, there's not a damned thing we can do about it.

You can thumb your nose at me while I glower at you from across the room, and when we get tired of posturing, I'll buy ya a beer.
