A beautiful tartan, and kilt, Robin. Congratulations.
As for Grey Hose that is lighter in colour than 'charcoal', take a look at the last pair on this page : http://www.scottishkilts.net/store/c...kilt_hose.html. I now have three pairs of these and they are a very nice mid-grey that go well with my 'Grey Thistle Dubh' kilt (See the images at the foot of page 9 of my Photo Album)

Thanks for the detail shots, Robin. Looking at it close, it looks like mass and friction would be enough to hold it in. Definitly going to have to make myself one of those!
