And, I suppose, just where could I get such an alteration done?

    Thanks a lot, guys.
If you're at Queens you need a kilt!!! Considering what I have seen at Frosh week! My daughter is an engineer there. need I say more?
What are you're measurements? I have access to a Gordon tartan that just might do.
    Cheers

    Kilt Alteration

    Canuck

There are a couple of places in Kingston that you could go. One is the Kilt maker at Cards drycleaners on Princess St. next to Amudaus Cafe (he makes and alters the kilts for R.M.C, Queens and Fort Henry) he also gives a discount to the military and Queens students.

the second place is the "Kilt Store" in Alington park place in the former township ( out by the Cat centre )

    Regards

Buy a Stillwater or other inexpensive kilt and hold onto your dad's.

Someday, when you're older and fatter like many of us, it just might fit you as it is.

    Wow, big response.

Riverkilt: Luckily, the kilt I have is in the tartan I want (Hunting Ogilvie -- a family tartan, and a nice one at that). It's just big

ronstew: Well, if the choice is altering a tank or buying a cheap kilt, I'm opting for the alteration!

Canuck: Thanks for the offer, but I'm currently trying to drop a few pounds. Measurements are pretty much useless at this stage. I'm going to wait until at least September before I buy anything or get anything altered. Don't want to get something that'll be too big in a few months. But you are right: if I'm at Queen's, I need a kilt.

Blacksmith: That's incredible. Good kilt maker, student discount, within walking distance. I think this is my answer. Thank you so much!

cajunscot: Cha gheill! The next time I'm down that way, I'll pop in. But it looks like the guy in Kingston is my best bet for alterations.

Bob C.: Ha! Seriously, though, Stillwater is nice, but I want my first kilt in the family tartan. Call me a traditionalist.

Wompet: Wow, those are pretty nice for not being wool. But still, if a 5 yard costs ~$230 CDN, I'm probably better off getting the 8 yard wool altered.

    Thanks, all. I appreciate it.

I see that you mention getting the kilt altered in September after losing some weight. Just a quick question, but how much weigt are you looking to lose? The reason I ask, is that you could get the kilt altered right now to fit the middle hole of the straps. The kilt won't fit as good as it will in the first hole, but you would have a kilt that fits now and is still adjustable after some weight loss. Of course this is a moot point if you are looking to lose a huge amount of weigt in the next 6 months. However with really rapid weight loss comes the sad fact that some of it may come back

Anyhow, just a thought for you.
