Kilt on a Student's Budget
Right, so I'm in the market for a kilt (big surprise). The only problem is, I'm a university student. We all know what that means. Luckily, I have my dad's kilt sitting at home. Eight yards, 13 or 16 oz, perfect condition. Now, the question is, how much would an alteration run me? Keep in mind that it needs to be taken in quite a bit; dad was a big guy.
And, I suppose, just where could I get such an alteration done?
Thanks a lot, guys.

You might also try Kathy Lare at www.kathyskilts.com she's trained in Scotland if its a kilt from there. Or Barb who's on this board too...or Matt as suggested. Think there's a lady in NY too.
Or, if the kilt wasn't too dear to you, sell it and use the proceeds to buy a kilt that fits you in the tartan you want.

Alterations may cost as much as a new [cheap] kilt.

If you're at Queens you need a kilt!!! Considering what I have seen at Frosh week! My daughter is an engineer there. need I say more?
What are you're measurements? I have access to a Gordon tartan that just might do.
Cheers

Kilt Alteration
Canuck
There are a couple of places in Kingston that you could go. One is the Kilt maker at Cards drycleaners on Princess St. next to Amudaus Cafe (he makes and alters the kilts for R.M.C, Queens and Fort Henry) he also gives a discount to the military and Queens students.
the second place is the "Kilt Store" in Alington park place in the former township ( out by the Cat centre )

Buy a Stillwater or other inexpensive kilt and hold onto your dad's.
Someday, when you're older and fatter like many of us, it just might fit you as it is.

If you're willing to go the poly-vicose route, there's MacHummel at Canadian Casual Kilts in Fergus.
