There's a road between Aberfoyle and Calendar. Not hard to find, considering it's the ONLY road. It is a windy road and goes over a mountain, through a valley (with NOTHING in it but fields) and over another mountain. Along that road, there are no people, VERY few cars (1 passes every 10 min or so) and just open country. Along side of the road, there's a little parking lot with a couple picinic tables and a gravel parking lot. You can't miss it.
You want your hair to stand on end? Hit that place right before sundown and watch the sun set over the mountain with the woman you love while wearing a kilt. The silence and beauty and smell of clean air are more memorable than anything else on our whole trip to Scotland.
........mmmm,... I took note on that for my trip, hehehe (31st oh July till 14th of August),.... even if I go there alone,... just sitting and enjoying that silence while smoking a calm cigarette,....(avoiding the ban laws, hahaha)
¡Salud!

That would be fantastic and great for the kilted gent ( something about access comes to mind here...)
I'm already wishing I had more vacation to get out to walk the hills!

The Sierra Nevada above about 7500 feet, in the summer.
I WILL get up there, kilted. I WILL.
But what's this about the West Highland Way? Is this a trail? I haven't heard of it.

I just googled around for the West Highland Walk.
OMG...OMG... that looks WONDERFUL. How much fun is THAT???? I'd take 10-11 days to do it and just cover 7-9 miles a day instead of 10-14. Since you can choose to stay at a Bed and Breakfast a couple of nights for a shower, and can probably even do some laundry along the way, this is a GREAT, easy jaunt.
This is something I could even interest my wife in doing...THANK YOU, THANK YOU for pointing me to this!

No problem.
Some Scots don't even know it exists.
Ive climbed nevis and walked the way, and in my opinion the way is the best.

It looks amazing! And it goes past my familie's part of the world, Loch Lomond I've often wanted to visit where the Buchanan's were.

The Sierras are gorgeous!
I'll be going through them again (kilted of course) toward the end of June.

Off route I know-but there is also some fantstic scenery in northern Sweden-The Kungsleden-I walked that in the 60's.
There is also some superb walking in the Jotenheim-Norway 60's and 70's.
Kilted-but that leads to one bit of heartfelt advice--when not to wear the kilt: if doing a standing glissade-do not sit down-for if you do there is a deep and heartfelt longing for trousers-thick trousers!
