First time out in a kilt

As many have commented Rusty, it's a non event. It is a bit daunting the first time, but once it's done there is no turning back. Good on you and happy Kilt wearing.

I went out kilted one day last week to do some errands before going to a prayer rally. Of all of the places I stopped the only one to ask a question was at the wine store and he knows me as a regular customer. He just asked if I was going someplace special and I told him about the prayer rally. We both just took it as normal conversation and nobody from the gas station to the drug store mentioned the kilt nor did I notice any special looks. The comments and questions seem to come a lot more often at social occassions.

Speaking of comments... no one has ever asked me "The Question," given the exception of some playful ribs about whether or not I'd fail a kilt check at Faire by the ladies on the wench.org forum. No one has asked me at all, IRL.

Most people don't seem to care, or notice a man in a kilt. Ok, there are a few idiots, but they are very few. Once people get use to you in a kilt the only time you'll get a comment from them is when you don't wear one.

I just got back from Parump, Nevada. There's the desert. Then there's nowhere. Parump is the suburbs of the outskirts of nowhere.

Sherri and I were staying at the Saddle West Hotel Casino.

I wore my UK Workman's (with a duty belt, black work boots and a black t-shirt) through the hotel casino to the buffet. I got a couple of nice comments, smiles from the ladies, and one serious inquiry during which I gave the fellow (a casino security guard) this url and the Utilikilts url.

If a black guy can wear a kilt in redneck cowboy county then it's probably safe for any of us to wear a kilt anywhere.

I'm glad you had a good first day. You'll have many, many more such days.

Pahrump? Damn, what dragged you to that place? It may not be the end of the world, but you can see it from there. Actually not too unlike where I live.

LMAO... Don't be offended when I say this, as none is meant at all... in fact, there is a fair amount of jest in the following statement.
I'm of the impression that your safety as a kilted black man in redneck cowboy county very likely stems from the massiveness of said kilted black man.

BTW... the pick up at the gas station animation on your web site is pretty neat.
