First time out in a kilt
I would like to share my experience as encouragement to those of you who haven’t ventured forth in public in a kilt yet . Today I finally decided to go on a walk-about in my kilt.( Previously I have only worn the kilt at a St Andrews Society function) So off I went to the grocery store in my Russell tartan tank, semi dress sporran, red golf shirt, with red flashes to match. As I walked across the parking lot into the store, not one head turned, no wolf whistles, nothing. I went in the store bought a couple of items, nothing. Everyone acted so normally, as if they see guys walking around in kilts everyday. It was actually unsettling. So I decided that I would venture further afield. I went to the local shopping mall to see a friend that occasionally wears the kilt, but so far, not at work. I went in and spoke with one of his female co-workers, she didn’t even bat an eyelid. I then headed home. I made a stop at the liquor store to get my wife a bottle of wine, as I walked into the store the clerks eyes lit up and he said “man you look sharp.” I thought at last!! He then said do you play the bagpipes? I love the pipes…. We had a brief conversation about bagpipes, kilts and highland games. Suffice it to say I will have to pay him another visit to provide him with further information on the kilt. So all in all it wasn’t too bad of a day. I don’t know what I was worrying about all this time.
