But will you ever wear a sport kilt again? Or do you look down on such apparel?

Here's how I explain it to customers... (Magnus, Hosehead, KPossinger... back me up that this IS a story I tell):

Kilts are like cars. If you drive a VW and that's ALL you ever had and ever drove, you'd be very happy with it. It's a reliable vehicle that gets you from A to B. Think of the VW as a "Casual kilt".

Let's say that you work hard and save up enough to get a Mercedes. As soon as you sit in it and experience the difference in the interior, the handling, etc, you UNDERSTAND why it costs so much more. You enjoy it more and appreciate the subtle differences. Think of this as a Premier 8 yard kilt or equivalent.

Let's say the Mercedes has to go into the shop for a week (drycleaning) and you have to drive the VW again. It's just not the same feeling you get from the Mercedes. You don't feel the same way about the VW you did before since you've experienced the Mercedes. The VW didn't CHANGE on you... you just got a taste of the "better things" in life.

It happens to the best of us (me included). It doesn't NECESSARILY mean you're a kilt snob. It just means you appreciate the "better things" in life. But for those of us wearing PV Casuals and loving it, there's no problem with that!

I don't know that it's snobbish but I just like the look and feel of traditional tartans. I have nothing against the UK lovers - it's just not me. Right now I just have the 3 kilts for different occassions and I wear them appropriately. I have a SWK Black Watch for daily and sporting events and then a SWK Black Stewart for outings and a MacDonald Modern tank (8 yd, 16 oz, 100% wool) for more formal occassions. Like it's been said before, just feel comfortable with the kilt for the occassion.

Red Bull gives you wings. Kilts give you ...well..everything. ( Power, courage, bravado, intimidation, pride, honor, style, and the list goes on...)

I've sort of went through that progression. Not snobbery, but an appreciation for better standards. I started with several SportKilts and eventually sold them. I know have SWK's, Buzz Kidders, Amerikilts, and finally have two 5 yd, 16 oz worsted wool on order from ScottishKilts.net. I certainly don't look down on anyone wearing a SportKilt. The polyblend variety with sewn down pleats and belt loops can make a nice caual kilt, especially for summer.

I like all my kilts. My Amerikilts are my casual jeans, my Buzz Kidders and SWK's, are my Dockers, and my 16 oz wool 5 yarders can go casual or full dress. Personally I'm not a fan of UK's because I like wearing a sporran, but if they are what you like best, by all means go for it. I may also add the SWK Weathered Lamont and Irish Saffron to my collection. I love having the variety, and think it's great that we have so many choices - a kilt for every occasion so to speak.
