Reverse kinguisse is the thing. I have a couple of kilts in that style and select them for car journeys of any great distance.
The car we have at the moment is fairly large by UK standards, so it is easy to step into the driver's side, sweep left, sweep right and touch down. Me having short wingspan and wide undercarriage makes it a two sweep manouver.

Okay, good. Then it's settled that we can blame the direction of the kilt pleats on the Romans. Thank you for clearing that up.
Chris.

Oh, Yeah.....the metal chairs.......I try to steer clear of them. I never realized that chairs could be so cold. Sweep The Pleats!

I learned that lesson real quickly, when I bought my first UK at the games. I walked out of the hall where they had the booth, and went outside to sit down on some metal bleachers and watch Bad Haggis, or was it Tempest, I don't remember... boy, was that an eye-opener!!

I'm pretty darned new to this whole kilt thing. I got my first one a little over three weeks ago.
I was told to do the butt sweep and also the "move your body thing" to get the pleats going forward while you are sitting. I'm not coordinated enough to do the "move your body thing" so I just do the butt sweep and that works fine for me.
However, one night alone in my apartment I decided to get crazy with my below-the-knee length Utilikilt and did the REVERSE "move your body thing" so the pleats were going backwards and then sat on the couch. Well, I was not sitting on any pleats at all, they were all behind me and I was just sitting on the couch and not the kilt at all!
Kilts are so strange...... They never cease to amaze me....
I guess that's another very good reason for me NOT to do the "move your body thing" because knowing me I would get confused and move the wrong way and then sit on a cold chair.

Just try looking manly...or even moderately coordinated...sweeping and sitting while on crutches and unable to bend your right leg. I wrestled with that all yesterday, and my wife finaly likened it to landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier...a controlled crash.

I'm beginning to get the hang of keeping the pleats straight when seating myself, but it was rather strange the first few times I tried it. It's almost second nature now, and nobody seems to notice.
